Your CV Shouldn’t Get Ignored — So We Built an AI-Powered Tool to Fix That.

Clementina Alegrett

Job and Carreer Coach in Berlin

The job market has changed.

Candidates are using AI. Recruiters are using AI. Companies are using increasingly sophisticated tools to screen, organise and evaluate applications.

So the question is no longer whether we should use AI in our job search.

The question is:

How can we use AI in a way that actually makes our applications stronger — without losing our personality, experience and individual value?

This question was one of the reasons I decided to create the Happy Worklife CV Checker.

A strong CV is more than a list of jobs

As a Career Coach for International Professionals in Germany, I review CVs regularly, and I see the same challenge again and again:

Many professionals have much more to offer than their CV communicates.

They have years of experience. They have managed projects, solved problems, supported teams, improved processes, worked internationally or contributed to business growth.

But when you read their CV, you see things like:

Responsible for project management.

Responsible for customer communication.

Tasks included reporting and administration.

Technically, these statements may be correct.

But they don’t tell me what you actually contributed.

And in today’s competitive job market, that distinction matters.

Your CV needs to communicate your value

A recruiter shouldn’t have to figure out why your experience is relevant.

Your CV should make it easy for them.

That starts at the very top with a strong professional profile.

Instead of:

Experienced marketing professional looking for a new challenge.

I want candidates to communicate something much more specific:

Structured and data-driven Marketing Manager with 10+ years of experience in B2B marketing and SaaS environments. Experienced in developing multi-channel campaigns, managing cross-functional stakeholders and using performance data to optimise marketing activities and drive business growth.

Within a few seconds, I understand:

Who are you? What is your level of experience? What are you particularly good at? And what value could you bring to an organisation?

That’s positioning.

And that’s exactly what a strong CV should do.

From responsibilities to impact

Another area I pay particular attention to is the language we use to describe professional experience.

Compare:

Responsible for implementing a new onboarding process.

with:

Designed and implemented a new onboarding process, reducing the time required for new employees to become operational.

Or:

Responsible for social media.

versus:

Developed and executed the company’s social media strategy, increasing LinkedIn engagement by 35% within six months.

The difference isn’t about making your experience sound more impressive than it was.

It’s about making your actual contribution visible.

Strong action verbs such as developed, implemented, led, increased, reduced, coordinated, launched, optimised, or delivered help communicate ownership.

Numbers, outcomes and context help communicate impact.

Why I built the Happy Worklife CV Checker

After reviewing many CVs through my coaching work, I wanted to translate part of the framework I use with my clients into a tool that candidates could access themselves.

So, with the help of AI, I built the Happy Worklife CV Checker.

The tool analyses your CV from several perspectives, including your professional positioning, profile description, professional experience, achievement language, action verbs, structure, readability, relevant keywords and common ATS-related considerations.

But there is an important distinction:

The purpose isn’t to let AI create a generic CV for you.

Quite the opposite.

The purpose is to help you identify where your CV isn’t yet communicating your own experience and value strongly enough.

AI should support your thinking, not replace it

I believe learning how to work with AI is becoming an important career skill in itself.

But copying an AI-generated CV without questioning it isn’t necessarily going to make you a stronger candidate.

AI doesn’t automatically know which achievement mattered most in your career.

It doesn’t know why a difficult project was difficult.

It doesn’t know that you were the person who brought three departments together when nobody else could.

And it doesn’t know which parts of your professional story you want to carry into your next role.

You do.

AI can help us identify patterns, improve language, challenge weak descriptions and structure information more effectively.

The strongest result comes when we combine that technology with human judgement, professional experience and self-awareness.

Particularly for international professionals in Germany

This is especially relevant for the international professionals I work with in Germany.

You may have built your career in another country, worked in several languages, relocated, adapted to a new professional culture or changed industries.

Sometimes your experience doesn’t fit neatly into the boxes German recruiters are accustomed to seeing.

That doesn’t make the experience less valuable.

But it does mean that positioning and communication become even more important.

Your CV has to help the person on the other side understand what you bring to the table.

A CV shouldn’t just describe where you’ve been

It should help position you for where you want to go next.

That’s ultimately what I wanted the Happy Worklife CV Checker to help candidates do:

Communicate their experience clearly.

Make their achievements visible.

Show their professional value.

And position themselves confidently for their next opportunity.

Because especially in a difficult job market, sending more applications isn’t always the answer.

Sometimes the better question is:

Does my CV make it immediately clear why someone should talk to me?

If the answer isn’t yet a strong yes, that’s something we can work on.
